I am pleased to announce that the Imperial Republic will host an official IC & OOC convention. It will include some IC and OOC activities, all-around fun. The timeline for this is anywhere from 6 months to 2 years from now, depending on well..everything. Now what we need is a convention team to particpate in the planning of activities, ideas, and the convention itself. Anyone who wishes to participate please PM me. Once we have a team assembled I will appoint or allow to be nominated a moderator/coordinator to lead the discussions and facilitate the planning process. The Administration Team is automatically part of this project and will participate and work closely with the IRCON Team. First step is we are having an account setup with a badge company to produce real ID badges with our IC info (and a RL photo) that all convention attendees will be required to obtain (which will be available months to a year prior to the event).
If you have any ideas or would like to be part of the team, or have any general comments, either pm me or post here. Depending on the feedback we get and interest generated will help determine the planning process. For example, depending on the number of participants coming, will determine whether we will plan a 3-day sleepover at one of our homes here or whether we need to rent a hall or facility to host the events, etc.

I'm more than willing to help. I'll even work up preliminary designs for the badges. (Actually, depending on how many people decide to attend, we might be able to defer our costs and make them ourselves.) I helped Cherokee of SWC and the defunct SWS to plan the SWS gathering that took place in 2004. I even did a couple t-shirt designs for myself and another person who attended.

I would love to participate, but I think it would be impossible this year, as my plans are already laid out and I do not have extra money to cover the air ticket.
I am assuming it will take place in Phoenix, as most people are from there. I may be able to travel there in 2010, but provided a fixed date is chosen at least 6 months in advance. Plus, someone would have to help me find good and non-expensive hotel ;-)

If you check the IRCON forums, which are below this one, you will find that this info is already posted. We will help people with hotel bookings or other accomidations next year. The date is set for July 22nd - 25th 2010. Check the forums and http://ircon.eotir.com

Start saving money now
Ive been working on the numbers for events. WaterWorld is shutting down, but there is SunSplash, and they have laser tag, so that can be two birds with one stone. But everyone will probably need to come up with at least $100 to help pay for portion of the bill for the tickets to SunSplash, Cosmic bowling, and overall food that we will be providing (several different meals on different days, pizza, subs, homemade special breakfast one day, homemade special dinner on the first night, etc.). This is not including hotel and travel costs. We may be able to house a few people for the duration of the convention at some of the homes of the IR people so you have no hotel fees, but that will depend on lots of factors and it will be something to handle as time gets closer. But just want people to start saving, and if we make group reservations ahead of time for these things we can get group discounts.

Mmmmm... The dates might be a little complicated for me. I could take one week off from July 24 until August 1st, since I could take advantage of the National Holidays (28 and 29) and bridge the remaining days, but the week before that might be difficult for me.
If you add to that the fact that it will probably be more expensive for me than for anyone else, I think I am doomed ;-)

Well we are doing this from July 22nd to July 25th presently. The dates could change possibly. If it makes a huge difference in changing the dates a few days OM let me know. I don't like carrying it through Sunday though so I'd prefer to end Sunday or start Monday. But you do have plenty of time to save, its a year and a half away.

For me it does make a difference: I have a trip scheduled for next year in May/June, so I will use 3 weeks of my vacation time, which will leave me with almost no remaning vacation time. During the week from July 24 until August 1st, I would only "pay" 3 days of vacation, but will have a total of 9 days of available time to travel.
However, I would not want to jeopardize the plans for everybody else, since the other factor that would allow me to travel would be to find an airfare that suits my budget. The current prices for similar dates this year stand around US$950 from here to Phoenix. That is a bit high if you consider I would still need to add the hotel and food. I do know that there are great sales of tickets around January and February, so if I can get a good price on the tickets, I might be able to fly there.

Since I'm going to have to fly in myself, I won't be able to see about getting tickets until about the same time as OM. Also, I have the additional problem in that I'll have to sign up for the time off where I work. I won't be able to do that until Jan 2010, and I won't even know until after the middle of March if I get the time. I will have to use my income tax return to purchase my airfare. And since I'm more than likely going to have to pay double for whatever, since Hawk might be coming too, I just don't see how I'm going to be able to afford to stay in a dive of a motel, much less something a bit nicer.
Now, if you want to know why I'm planning to fly, it's because it's just too far to drive from East Tennessee, especially when I don't own a car.

Well I would be interested in coming aswell, even if I haven't really started to RP with anyone of you yet
. But I would think that should have happened by that time next year. But being that I am a european I will obviously have to book some time in advance to get really cheap airfares aswell as accomondations. But if I can get things to flow I am well all game. Might want to stay a bit longer since this would be my first visit to the states really. Might even consider to stop 1-2 airports short and do a drive if that is really gonna make it a lot cheaper.
