Once again, this depends on the number of people planning on coming. Some activities are better for big groups, and some don't work for big groups, though lots of things work for small groups. I would like to see a few IC activities in which everyone acts In Character. Perhaps an official IC IR meeting will take place. Card games, board games, a video marathon, maybe a mini-ball of sorts (depends on number of people coming), video games (tournaments or skirmishes, etc).

I suggest bowling. Especially if it's done IC. It's a lot of fun, and the amount of people bowling doesn't matter.

I love bowling, that's a great idea. We could do cosmic bowling, which is really fun, but its really expensive, so we might want to find a cheap day/time as well instead.

Cosmic bowling would be awesome. And if people are given enough of an advance warning of what the cost is, they can be prepared for it. Plus, if we decide to bowl in character, cosmic bowling is the best way to go about it.
When Cherokee had his little SWS Star Wars gathering in 2004, we went cosmic bowling, and did it on a somewhat IC level. It was a blast!

Okay, another idea- BARBEQUE! Gotta have a cookout. Also, depending on how many people actually attend, maybe a Monopoly game, Star Wars style. I have a set of each of the different Monopoly Star Wars sets that were made. I would be willing to bring one with me, if someone in the local area doesn't already have one.

Next idea- first off, are there any kind of amusement or water parks in the area? Nothing any farther than maybe an hour to an hour and a half drive?

There are two. Sunsplash and Water World.

I also vote lazer tag.

Lazertag would be awesome, especially if we do it on an IC level. Great idea.

Which of the two waterparks, in your opinion, is the better one?

Ask Kaidlen. I hope we can have a Palace Situation Room/War Room live scenario (brief) where situations and reports are presented and only one or two of us know in advance what is going on and everyone else is faced with the information and decision making process impromptu. I am almost finished with a tentative overall agenda however everything is subject to change. We are planning a surprise element or two as well.

Bowling in IC is real easy. All you do is go bowling, but instead of using your real life name, you use your in character name. The scoresheet has your IC name listed on it, and you respond as your character while the game takes place.

Nope. Not at all. It's real easy, and a lot of fun. Also, at least here in the States, it seems to me that a lot of Star Wars fans also enjoy bowling. Practically everyone I have met online through Star Wars RPGs initially enjoys the game. And I've actually went bowling with most of them.

Well, no problem. I have played bowling several times here, but OOC. I am not a superb player, but at least I score a strike once in a while.

I seam to remember something else making you Minister of Defense, Overmind.

I think that laser tag IC would rock and there is a really good place not far from my house that does both public and privet sessions. I’ve even done one as Ieyena there before… it was with my family…. But I went by Ieyena. It is two levels and not that expensive if you do a public session. The privet sessions are not to bad if you have a big enough group. I’ve done both and both were fun.

I have played paintball with the people from the office and I have to tell you that I had a blast!!! I even got 5 rounds instead of the regular 3 the rest played, as I was filling in for some casualties that other groups had.

Lasertag, yes. Paintball, no. Not with Hawk. Plus I have to be careful to what kind of fumes I end up breathing. I don't need an asthma attack triggered. And since I've never done paintball, I don't want to risk it.

Oh, I suggested something else that we could do, rollerskating/blading.

Okay, the last time I talked with Jim, he and I had a discussion of things that can be done that are basicly touristy type stuff. He's supposed to find a bunch of brochures of things to do around the Phoenix area. When I get them, I'll post a list of options for us here. One thing though, a trip to the Grand Canyon is not going to be part of the weekend. It's too far away for it to be a feasible inclusion.

Jim informed me that it's a 5 hour drive one way from where he lives. While that would work for an overnighter, I don't really think it's feasible for inclusion for IRCON. Touristy stuff should be within a 2 hour drive one way, at the most, for inclusion as an IRCON event. After all, no one wants to spend most of their time stuck in a vehicle going to or from somewhere. It takes up time we can be doing other things. Also, we have to look at transportation as well. If it's a sizable group, a mini-van will be needed.

Well, it can be done in one day, provided you leave by 0600. Then you would be arriving by 1100. A four hour stay in site and you would depart around 1500, arriving by 2000.

Yeah, if you had multiple drivers. And that doesn't count the possibility of having Hawk along.

That is easy to do with just two drivers. I have done something alike with myself as the only driver, so two drivers should be a piece of cake.

Couple things we can do,

1) Air soft (its a man sport, so if you don't like pain you might not want to play, also it costs money to buy the guns, but I have about 50,000 AS bbs we could use, not sure if its a good idea, but its an idea lol)
2) Bowling (Im up for this, most bowling alleys are happy to discount for large groups)
3) Arm wrestling competition :)
4) BBQ (Im up for that, good suggestion Shan!)
5) Football/Soccor/Baseball/Softball/Basketball (I have all the balls)
6) Games (Board games, video games im up for it all, good suggestion who ever said it! I also own just about every single console aside from Sony (Yuck))
7) Paint ball (also a good team sport, Shan fumes don't bother me and I have really bad asthma ;))

I posted some of the ideas I am up for as well as some of my own :) Also Stratum sent me a coupon recently but I dont know if it will be any good when we do this IRCON. But it was for 7 bucks per team per game (30 minute game, up to 10 people). Also I do meetings at the bowling alley for work for all my Shift supervisors and the like, we get discounts like crazy.

For those of you who don't know what Air soft is:

You shoot plastic BB's (Yes just like a BB gun) at each other. However, most smart people wear full body armor and helmet etc (My brother falls out of the smart people group since he enjoys not wearing a vest), however the fear of being shot is a lot worse then actually being shot. (I was also shot 3 times with real bullets and it wasn't bad :)) At first the bb hits you and bounces off you. The only time you ever feel it is when it hits and unarmored spot, which your chances of being hit there are 1 in 10 lol, as long as you were a long sleeve shirt though aside from a red spot on your skin there is no damage. Again its overcoming fear that is the challenge, that and my rocket launcher.

Kidding I don't have a rocket launcher for air soft, would be awesome though.

Dene, I have environmental allergies. I literally have to stay inside practically year round. So it might not be fumes coming from the paint in the paint balls that could nail me, but the odors in the surroundings where we're playing, and pollen in the air. You should see what I do when I have to ring flowers up where I work. When I start getting odd looks from the people buying the flowers and I explain, they usually apologize.

1) Air soft- Isn't there a starting age to play? Also, could very well be cost prohibited. I don't think it right for you to shell out for all the gear it would take for our group.
2) No issues here. Bowling is a must.
3) Have fun with Hawk on that one.
4) We have to eat, and this is a cheap means of doing so and having a lot of fun.
5) I don't know if Jim would be able to play any of those. And I certainly can't.
6) Always a good idea. If we have a lot of people, I would even bring pieces from which ever Star Wars Monopoly sets I don't bring.
7) Already stated.
