I motion that we mandate confirmation by the Judiciary Committee or possibly the Senate as a whole, be necessary for the Inquisitors to remain in their present position and hereafter have that ability to confirm future appointed Justices of the Royal Courts and Inquisitors of the High Inquisition. This shall ensure greater balance of power between the branches of government.

"It seems that my fellow colleagues from the Corellian sector have lost faith in the Throne itself, in not trusting its decisions. After all, doesn't our own Supreme Chancellor originate from the Corellian system? Did the Chancellor not lead the Corellian system for many years? Did not James Stratus once live on Corellia for a time? I vote against this motion, as I feel that trust placed in the Throne for things such as appointments of judicial officials should be left there, and not be delayed by the debates of the Senate, such as this very motion itself. Senator Quell'tor, while you speak of noble causes, I fear we do not put enough trust in our own Supreme Ruler, and his right and left hands. I have long observed the High Prince, having lived on the planet in which he was born, and have come to know and trust him without fail. I offer His Majesty my full support."

"Senator Dimonte, surely these attacks on our Corellian brothers in the senate is unwarrented? I do not doubt their faith the Corellian people they continue to serve diligently. Loyalty to a whole, not just to one man, rather to those that follow him. What causes you to believe their faith in the Throne is shaken? Such accusitions do not belong in debates completely unrealated to this subject."

Creel took a breath and continued to the subject at hand.

"I do not support this motion. I believe that more power belongs to our people, but on this occasion I side on the Throne. When it has required Senate approval as history has shown, can be too slow as debates such as these drag on without end. Giving the power to the Supreme ruler would give much faster selection and appointment. Then it is implemented and in place in less than half the time the Senate might take when a new Justice is needed immediatily. I recall when the Old Republic sat idly by as a insurrection gathered at it's very footsteps, and was blind to prepare for Galatic Civil war. I think we can learn and give the power to act quickly, rather to delay in debates exactly such as these. Thank you."

Senator Mkvenner took a seat and took a breath of relief.

Chalet had already cast his vote and, as usual, had not intended to speak. However, it appeared a bit of redirection was acquired. When his request to speak was recognized, he stood casually. "Senators of the Imperial Republic... Neither this vote nor this discussion need be about what the Throne is or is not capable of. This is about what the people deserve. Do they deserve to have a hand in approving of the officials that will have the authority to judge their actions? I should think so. Some..." Chalet paused only long enough to glance in the direction of the Senator that had just spoken. "...believe that the speed is what matters in a government. It is true - we concede a great deal of executive authority to the Supreme Ruler simply so quick decisions can be made efficiently. However - if that is your only...or even your main argument, then I urge you to consider the implications of what you are saying. It sounds...a great deal like the Galactic Empire we all know from history. At any rate, confirming a Royal appointment is not a time-consuming matter. It should, however, be done by the entire Senate...not just one committee. Then again - perhaps some of you are not actually here for democracy." Chalet's eyes scanned the room, looking for no one in particular.

Choosing not to go on, he simply resumed his seat. Indeed it did seem that many were...hopelessly attached to those that called themselves part of the Imperial Throne. Chalet knew a former member of said body personally. The man was accomplished in many ways, but he was not infallible. Chalet knew that the same held true for every member of the Throne.

Senator Nagan waited patiently to be recognized to speak, then stood slowly. He was still a little unsure about himself and speaking on topics after his last time in the senate chambers. He had made somewhat a fool of himself, an act that he severely wished to avoid again. He cleared his throat and spoke in a somewhat reserved tone, "I must agree with Senator Purifini on this matter. The true issue here is not whether or not the Throne is capable. But rather if we feel that the men and women whom we serve should have the right to have their say about things. I for one am loathe to turn too much power to the Throne, and not out of mistrust or a belief that those on the Throne are inept, but simply out of caution. History has a nasty way of repeating itself. And I wish to have no part in bringing our battered past to life in any way."

He nodded one to the Chair and sat down, silently wondering to himself whether he had just made an idiot of himself, and by extention the people of Fest. After a moment of mulling it over in the back of his mind he let it go. What was done was done. No taking it back now. He had cast his vote.

Senator Quell'tor listened to the debate and felt he need to voice his support of what had been said. So after being reconized by the Supreme Chancellor he stood to address his fellow senators. "I agree with Senators Purifini and Nagan that this is about safeguarding the future of the Imperial Republic. For no one is Infallible and to that end we have a duty to provide safeguards to prevent any one branch of government having to much power. We need checks and balances to keep the Imperial Republic a fair and equal government for all its citizens. That is why the Senate needs to have the power to confirm future appointed Justices of the Royal Courts and Inquisitors of the High Inquisition. So that we can keep corruption at bay and not let it destroy our beloved Imperial Republic." Feeling he had said all that need to be said for the moment he sat down.

Blake rose from his seat to be the voice of reason once more in the Senate about Judicial Issues. As one of the last remaining true Statesman of old, he frequently provided guidance and advice to the younger fresher faces in the Senate; even though he wasn't that old himself. He knew that the current system wasn't flawed, and that half the members of the Senate frequently acted in their own best interests, he was afraid of what the process would like like in front of the Senate. As being an old personal friend of Exectuor Treyson, he was well aware of the detailed processes that COMPNOR went through to identify and select Judges for across the galaxy. The Senators in this very body played a deeper role than they were letting on, "My friends, I think we are forgetting that we very often suggest potential candidates to the Throne for all types of positions across the galaxy from Judges to Ambassadors and Moffs. It is unfortunately extremely difficult for this large body to ever accomplish anything in a timely manner. I have also met numerous times with countless government officials to discuss concerns I may have, and they have always been more than happy to talk with me and address my issues, the High Prince included. I do not think this amendment is necessary at this time. I ask my colleagues to consider that we could instead spend time trying to end slavery and hunger and other pressing issues in this galaxy which people are still suffering from."

With that Senator Carrington sat back down, hoping that his message would be heard by the Senate.
